The computer is capable of calculating 1.3 petaflops of data (1.3 quadrillion calculations per second).<\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1646\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1646\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1646 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/bdrtimes.riken.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/top-view.jpg\" alt=\"\u4e0a\u304b\u3089\u898b\u305fMDGRAPE-4A\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bdrtimes.riken.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/top-view.jpg 640w, https:\/\/bdrtimes.riken.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/top-view-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1646\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u25b2 <span lang=\"EN-US\">MDGRAPE is a special-purpose supercomputer for calculating molecular dynamics, and is based on GRAPE (GRAvity PipE), a computer built for astrophysical calculations of gravitational N-body systems.
